Italy's dance-pop trio Eiffel 65 conists of singer Jeffrey Jey, keyboardist Maurizio Lobina and DJ Gabry Ponte. The group works closely with the BlissCorporation label, which is run by producer/manager Massimo Gabutti, one of the pioneers in the "Spaghetti House" scene; along with releasing their own hit singles like Blue (Da Ba Dee), they produce songs for other groups on the label. Eiffel 65 -- whose name was generated at random by a computer program -- released their debut album Europop in late 1999. The second single from the band "Move Your Body" was also a smash hit and went to the top of the charts. The third single and last one from the first album "Too Much Of Heaven" didn't chart well at all, probably shouldn't have been released as a single although it did quite well in European countries.
Still did alright on the Billboard charts seeing that the song isn't one which is "radio friendly." Probably was released just to prove a point that Eiffel 65 can also make quality music besides the pop/dance tunes. Eiffel 65 spent most of late 2000/early 2001 working on the follow up album "Contact!" which was released in summer 2001 in italy and is sceduled to arrive in the USA at the end of 2001. The first major single from Contact, "Lucky (In My Life)" sounds more "poppy" then previous songs but it still has that familiar E65 sound. Even though it is expected that Contact will not do as good as Europop, Eiffel 65 will release a bunch of singles from this 2nd album seeing that it has 18 tracks in all. Eiffel 65 is a one of a kind group. They have created thier own genre of music and have set the standards for euro-dance/pop music with complete melodic songs, dance grooves, 80s inspirations, electronic sounds, vocoders and atmospheres.
